The post you’ve been waiting for: an update on growing out my hair!! I know. I’ll give you a second to settle down. OK. So, it’s true. Still growing out my hair. I’m also growing out the layers that I used to wear so that my hair is one length (except for my bangs). I think that will help my fine, slightly-wavy-but-not-really-wavy hair be all that it can be. My plan of action is: + Keep my hair as healthy as possible by using natural hair products and minimizing heat styling + Get regular trims every 10 weeks or so.... Read more →

I've got another homemade hair mask for you! This time there's no mashing involved. It's just coconut oil, which I heard recommended by Joy and Tracy on their podcast. I also used a tip from my hair stylist: she explained that hair is like a sponge so when it's soaking wet it can't absorb anything else - like conditioner or an awesome homemade hair mask. She recommended gently squeezing out as much water as possible or even blotting your hair with a towel before putting in conditioner (or your awesome homemade hair mask). So, I decided to apply coconut oil... Read more →

I saw this on Pinterest earlier this week and thought, "Dang it! It's true." I keep wanting to run more and all I have to do is lace up my shoes and get my butt out the door! A run could take as little as 20 minutes so busyness is no excuse. Going for a good run is so therapeutic. I feel fit and strong and healthy. I have time to just think or to zone out and not think. For the past couple of years I've been loving spin class and my running has become more infrequent. It almost... Read more →

As part of my 2012 goal of adding quality pieces to my wardrobe I'd like to buy a few pieces of jewelry. I tend to be drawn to simple, nature-inspired jewelry, which is why I'm so in love withRoundabout Design. Aren't her pieces lovely? And quite affordable! I might have sent Chris a couple of links with a little hint about our upcoming anniversary... Read more →

Since I have a *slight* obsession with healthy hair lately I've been browsing blogs and websites for home remedies for healthy hair (like these at The Beauty Department). I kept seeing avocado pop up in hair mask recipes. Then, while I was at Whole Foods getting new shampoo I even noticed an avocado hair mask...for a mere $23. I was pretty sure I could mash up an avocado for less than $23. So I decided to try out my first homemade hair mask. So, after reading a few recipes for avocado hair masks I just decided to wing it. I... Read more →

Right now I'm working on growing my hair out. Yes, literally right now. I was going to list "grow out my hair" as one of my goals for 2012 but it felt a little bit too much like listing something you've already done on a to-do list, just so you can cross it off (which I totally do). So it's not an official goal but know that I'm working on it, even in my sleep! {engagement photo shoot/the most exciting thing my hair will ever do} So, let's talk more about my hair, shall we? It seems I've usually had... Read more →

Today I'm happy to share a guest post from Chris! Since he's a nutrition professor by day I asked him to write about some of the nutritional aspects of our "being vegan" experiment, which we're trying out this week. We served veggie burgers at our wedding! Professors are a strange breed. Regardless of discipline, we all are rife with idiosyncrasies and social maladaptation we think can somehow be forgiven because we’re introspective nerd-geniuses. The truth is, although many of us are introspective and nerdy, very few of us are geniuses. I fallinto this camp: I’m just extra-eccentric without the brilliant... Read more →

My sister and me on the first day of 2nd and 5th grade. You're welcome. You might not be able to tell from this photo, but I was not born with an amazing sense of fashion. I’ve never been into purses or shoes (except the kind you wear with scrunch socks, obviously) and clothing stores usually overwhelm me with all the choices and the price tags. In fact, my husband likes shopping and fashion more than I do! But, I do recognize that clothes can be a fun way to express personality and I’ve noticed that I feel more confident... Read more →

When I asked Chris to write a guest post (on the topic of his choice) I thought he might want to contribute a post on food or cooking since he’s a nutrition professor. Or that he might want to write about budgeting and savings, since he’s the one who taught me to budget down to the dollar. But he wrote about ties! I had to laugh because it's actually the perfect topic for him to write about; this guy has an amazing tie collection! It was fun making him try on all the different combinations and snapping pictures. Did you... Read more →
