In my cart at Trader Joe's

In my cart at Trader Joe's | RISING*SHINING

Fall is arriving at Trader Joe's and I don't think I can overstate the happiness that aisles festooned in leaf garland, with orange and yellow products peeping out, bring me. Every week new goodies are arriving. Some are old friends and quite a few are newcomers to the party that is autumn at TJ's. I will definitely be piling lots of these into my red cart this season and sharing what I try but for today I am sharing two simple fall snacks with a common ingredient. One is an annual favorite. The other one I just discovered and – bonus! – you don't even have to buy it at Trader Joe's.

So here are the two fall snacks in my cart at Trader Joe's this week...

Organic Honeycrisp Apples + Cinnamon: How lucky we are to live in a world with Honeycrisp* apples! At least that's what I think every time I bite into one. I filled up a (reusable) bag of Honeycrisp apples as soon as they showed up in the organic produce section at my Trader Joe's and every single one has been delicious. One day I thought to sprinkle a sliced apple with cinnamon. So good!  And then just as I was congratulating myself on my culinary genius ... "Oh wait, maybe I'm not actually the first person to think of apples with cinnamon..." But it's surprisingly amazing to eat just the two ingredients of apples and cinnamon and experience their delicious simplicity - no artificial flavors, butter, or sugar required. Bottom line: Love it.

Pumpkin Cranberry Crisps + Creamy Toscano Cheese with Cinnamon: In the wake of our pumpkin and fall obsession, aggressive pumpkin spice lurks in many seasonal items. But not in either of these. Pumpkin Cranberry Crisps are sweet from dried cranberry but savory with rosemary. I find the flavor delightful and even a bit sophisticated. These little crackers pair beautifully with one of my favorite cheese, the seasonal Creamy Toscano Cheese with Cinnamon. It's a seasonal items I look forward to every fall. This cheese has a distinct flavor without being strong or stinky cheese and with cinnamon tastes balanced while giving a nod to the season. The combination of crackers and cheese is a perfect snack or appetizer that whispers fall instead of hitting you over the head with it. Bottom line: Love it.

Both of these snacks together would make a lovely appetizer spread for a fall gathering!

*I'm fascinated by the behind-the-scenes of popular produce cultivars – let's hope the Honeycrisp stays delicious.
